Sports Training (8y-18y):  Sport specific supplemental training individually geared at competitive athletes of all levels.  Evaluation is performed by a licensed physical therapist to identify any injury risks present in the developing athlete as well as deficits that would affect athletic performance.  A program is then designed to address imbalances related to muscular and cardiovascular endurance, force generation, coordination, range of motion, power, and agility. Re-assessment will take place to help monitor progress towards the goal of healthy, sports specific athletic performance enhancement.

Circuit Training (6y-14y):
A more general approach to fitness aimed at the child who is not looking for a specific competitive athletic enhancement.  Assessment is performed by a licensed physical therapist to identify the base level of fitness and to make sure the fitness program designed is safe for the child’s current fitness level.  This training can be geared towards the goals of a fitness novice who is looking to stay active during the years that children are most likely to discontinue organized sports and activities.  A child can expect to see improvements with muscular and cardiovascular endurance, strength, coordination, and range of motion.  It is also great for increasing body awareness and self esteem, and facilitating weight loss.

Weight Management (6y-18y):
Recommended for children who are looking to increase activity level based on pediatrician recommendation. Similar approach as the circuit training with assessment by a physical therapist to identify base level of fitness and to design a safe fitness program.  Additional measurements such as weight and body fat can be taken periodically if physician/parent and participant desire that information.  Participant is encouraged to do 60 minutes of activity daily and asked to keep an activity log of this information to be reviewed at the beginning of each session. This type of training typically involves a multidisciplinary approach including a physician, a physical therapist, a registered dietician, and a behavioral counselor, and we want to be part of your team!

Pediatric Obesity:
    •    Will shorten life expectancy in the US by 2-5 years by mid-century--an effect equal to that of all cancers combined
    •    Is caused in part by the "big two"-- food marketing practices and technology, and institution- driven reductions in physical activity
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends:
    •    Annual height and weight checks of all pediatric patients
    •    For those with a BMI< 85th percentile, >60 minutes of daily moderate exercise
    •    For those with BMI> 85th percentile, a multidisciplinary team with expertise in childhood obesity, including a behavorial counsoler, registered dietician, physical therapist with training , and a primary care provider who continues to monitor medical issues and maintains a supportive alliance with the families
